SIPA Legacy & Way Forward Event Report

On July 2, 2026, the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) and UNDP Indonesia convened the hybrid event "SIPA Legacy & Way Forward: Pengelolaan Sampah Hulu-Hilir dan Kontribusi pada Transisi Energi" at the Bappenas office, marking the culmination of the Sustainable Infrastructure Programme in Asia (SIPA). Bringing together multi-sectoral stakeholders—including central and regional governments, multilateral development partners, academia, and industry leaders—the forum consolidated findings from SIPA’s nine strategic studies while mapping out concrete actionable steps for integrated waste-to-energy ecosystems, such as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF). Discussions highlighted that sustainable transformation requires tailored technology selection, strict upstream waste sorting to ensure consistent feedstock quality, robust institutional and offtaker frameworks, and diversified funding mechanisms (such as blended finance and public-private partnerships) to support national priorities under RPJMN 2025–2029 and the National Urban Area Program (PKPN) ASRI.
